Striving to make the world a more sustainable place, one dye at a time.

Hello, and welcome to our website (last updated June 2024)! We are The Sustainable Dye Chemistry Laboratory, focused on making the world a better place one dye molecule at a time. Our lab is headed by Dr. Tova N. Williams. At the heart of our research interests are the design, development, and application of dyes using traditional and non-traditional methods that prioritize sustainable chemistry practices. Traditional approaches include trial and error, synthesize, characterize (and repeat), while non-traditional approaches include utilizing experimental and computer tools to drive dye design and exploiting microbes for their capability to perform different functions such as adding or removing functional groups. Find out more about our current research projects here.

Our laboratory is affiliated with the BioColour Consortium, a global team of researchers dedicated to exploring sources of biocolor for industrial applications such as textile dyeing.
